The new unified World Heavyweight Champion is greeted by a mob of fans and meets the President of Mexico during a happy homecoming.

Unified World Heavyweight Champion Andy Ruiz Jr. received a homecoming fit for a king upon arrival in Mexico on Tuesday.

Ruiz was greeted by a sea of fans and was honored by the President of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez. The new champion became a legend on June 1, when he scored a shocking seventh-round TKO of the previously unbeaten Anthony Joshua to capture the WBA, IBF and WBO world titles.

He joins undefeated WBC World Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder atop the division. During his meeting with the president, he gave one of his belts as a gift along with other items during their meeting.

“[Ruiz] is Mexican and a pride for our country,” said President Lopez. “He won four belts with a lot of effort and a lot of dedication.”

Ruiz (33-1, 22 KOs) made his PBC debut in April, stopping Alexander Dimitrenko after five rounds. That was followed up by the win over Joshua, arguably the greatest upset in boxing since James “Buster” Douglas knocked out Mike Tyson in February 1990.

Save for a brief flash knockdown in the third, Ruiz dominated the action, rising from the mat to floor the incumbent twice in the third and two more times in the seventh to put him away. He is the first fighter of Mexican descent to win the world heavyweight title.
