An old war horse George Kambosos JR., from “Down Under” was flown into New York City to challenge IBF Super Lightweight Champion Richardson Hitchins. A native New York, Hitchins defended his title for the first time for a packed house in Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater.
As usual Kambosos,138.25 lbs., arrived in the Big Apple fit and prepared for war.
Unfortunately for the tattooed Australian, the champ Hitchins,139.5 lbs, was wired for battlein the Matchroom Boxing promoted event.
Pressing the action and moving forward Kambosos focused on a body attack and winged left hooks to the head that hit nothing but air. Pumping a hard left jab, Hitchens could not miss smashing it squarely off of Kamboso’s face. Throwing sharp rights off the jab Hitchins was in charge throughout the contest. With a swollen face Kambosos had a couple of positive moments when he was able to slug it out with Hitchins. Grit was not enough for Kambosos as Hitchins was in charge throughout the match. As Kambosos countenance became more distorted the conclusion to the pugilistic affair came to a close when Hitchins scored a right to the face and drilled a left hook into the pit of his opponent’s gut in round eight. Banged up and worn out, Kambososate ate rosin dust upon getting smacked and could not beat the referee’s count.
With the kayo victory Hitchins defended his IBF Super lightweight Belt for the first time and remains undefeated at 20-0 8 ko’s. After a game effort Kambosos travels to the other side of Earth as his slate drops to 22-4 10 ko’s.
