Miguel Angel Gonzalez from Mexico, defended the WBC lightweight title defeating American Lamar Murphy by majority decision, at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was controversial and after the result, both corners unwisely traded punches. The Referee was Mitch Halpern and the Judges were Omar Mintun, Dalby Shirley and Daniel Van de Wiele
