On this day in history, Carmen Basilio defeats Tony DeMarco and conquers welter crown

June 10th, 1955 

The great fighter from Canastota, New York, Carmen Basilio, conquered the welterweight championship defeating Tony DeMarco in the twelfth round. The fight was in a ring installed at the War Memorial Auditorium of Syracusa. The Referee was Harry Kessler. The Judges were Frank Forbes and Bert Grant.
